Storing Your Children's Art and Schoolwork

Mike Merritt • Apr 03, 2018

As Alice Cooper once said, "School's out for summer." And if you are like me, you have a whole school year of your child's art and school work to sort through. I know it can be a little daunting, but we are here to help you find some creative ways to store or archive your child’s work.

Let’s start with the school work. It seems that every day your child is coming home with their school folders filled with tests, quizzes or projects. I recommended going through the folder and discarding what you don’t want to save right away. The rest can be kept in a storage container labeled to coincide with the school year or age of the child along with the child’s name.

You can get a little more creative with your child’s artwork. I often let my youngest reuse her artwork as birthday cards for her classmates or family members. Another idea is to laminate a few of your favorite pieces and turn them into placemats. A new way to store your child’s work is to digitize it. Scan each piece onto your computer and make a disk. Disks take up less storage and you can easily label each disk with the child’s age and name. You can also upload your child’s artwork to Blurb and have a bound book made. Take a look at the book below.

Good luck and let us know if you have any other ideas to make our reader's life a little less cluttered!
