Did you make a New Year’s resolution to get organized in 2012? How’s that going so far? If it hasn’t been great, it’s time to consider hiring a professional organizer.

Once you decide to bring us into your home for a consultation, you must resist the urge to do too much of your own cleaning and organizing. Why? Because it’s important that we see your space in all of it’s clutter. This will help us to lay out the best plan of action for your specific needs. And chances are, your space isn’t nearly as bad as some others we’ve encountered.

Your complementary design consultation begins with a one hour (or less) visit, in your Kansas City home, to see the space you’d like us to help you organize. When we meet, we bring the showroom to you. You’ll see all of your options for designing the space and you can decide which ones work best for you and your budget. Then comes the fun part. We create a computer enhanced 3D version, of that area, so you can see exactly what it will look like when it’s finished. You can make suggestions and changes until we get it perfected. Once complete, with a push of a button you will have an exact quote, which includes materials, taxes and installation labor.

Call Life Uncluttered at 913-491-0900 to discuss our services around Kansas City and Overland Park. We look forward to getting you organized in 2012!

Moving into a new house is an exciting experience. Your new space appears huge at first. But once you start moving in your belongings, it seems to get smaller and smaller.

One way to avoid feeling cramped in your new space is to lay out an organization plan before moving day. Here are some suggestions from the National Association of Home Builders:

Do an audit – When moving, you’re probably going to be getting rid of lots of old and unused items. This is a great first step. Also, take inventory of your bills, bank statements and other documents. If possible, scan them so that you can access them electronically, then shred the originals to protect your identity. Try contacting your utility providers and requesting to receive invoices via e-mail instead of regular mail. You’ll be surprised how much space you’ll save by getting rid of all those papers!

Buy furniture that doubles as storage – There are plenty of attractive coffee tables, entertainment centers, beds and even sofas that offer (sometime hidden) storage mechanisms that’ll keep your living space from cluttering up quickly.

Make use of wasted square footage – This is one of the biggest mistakes that consumers make at home, particularly in the closet. Cabinets and shelves can – and should – go all the way up to the ceiling. It’s a fantastic storage solution. Worried about reaching those items that are up too high? By using high shelves to store out of season items, you’ll only be required to retrieve those items maybe once or twice each year. For example, winter boots and electric blankets could be stored up high during the summer since you wont need them.

Get bed risers – Raising the bed a few inches off the floor is another great storage solution. It’s a great place for sliding plastic totes and bins without cluttering the closet or corners.

Visit NAHB.org to learn more about these storage ideas.
